Family members can also be a detriment or more importantly be abused by the elderly with high IQ's and who are highly intelligent. No rule fits all, as I am living it with an incredibly intelligent elderly mother with a Master degree in Psychology.

Great advice Dan. :)

Treating the elderly like they are toddlers is one of my pet peeves. I am the healthcare proxy for a 95-year-old woman who is a dear friend. I take her to the doctors and inevitably, the doctor talks to me. I redirect them to my friend since she is the fucking patient. Ugh. Nurses are always better about not pulling that shit.

Thank you. I have a few loved ones with some serious health issues. This gives me some clear direction on how best to care for them. I know that there is no comparison to being the patient in the hospital and the person visiting, but it's hard to know what to do sometimes. Thanks again!
