The beaches of Sanibel Island are covered with piles of sea shells, which are scooped out of the currents of the Gulf of Mexico. The best shelling is at the edge of the shore, where the waves bring in fresh shells every day. I didn't make this pile of shells, they really are everywhere like this.

This place is awesome although it seemed like the shells are disappearing. I was there 3 years ago and then this past summer and there wasn't as many.

I was born in Tampa and remember running around on the beaches of Clearwater (on the Gulf side)collecting TONS of shells. When my family moved to California, I just couldn't understand why the beaches had no shells.
