DON'T EAT FOOD THAT DOESN'T ROT
This article is a very wise argument about the random things we eat.
I once left an Otis Spunkmeyer muffin on a counter, out of the package and on a plate; later that day I left, and ended up being stranded at a friend's apartment for two days by a freakish blizzard. When I returned home, there was the muffin...still moist and fresh.
I found that odd.
So I signed up for a food science class the next semester. Seriously, the most beneficial class I ever took--it changed the way I life my life--all because of that one nasty Otis Spunkmeyer muffin.
...that's just a little story for you. Read the article. I'll shut up now.

I bought organic strawberries and put them in the fridge. In 3 days, they were fuzzy and rotted. Non-organic grocery store strawberries lasted over 2 weeks in the fridge before I tossed them out because they were scaring me.

I was once told that if you put a pat of butter and a pat of margarine out on a counter that eventually the butter would spoil but the margarine would remain intact, untouched by flies even...
makes you wonder if flies aren't eating it, why do you?

Hi Dan,
I really would like to find out your thoughts regarding rumours of Jennifer Aniston's lesbian affair and her heroin abuse.
Thanks.

Given how I can't possibly eat all the fresh fruit by myself before it goes bad, I am thoroughly in support of scary chemicals in the food not making it go bad.
This reminds me of the hippie co-op in my town, where if you buy bagels from them they already have mold BY THE TIME YOU GET HOME. (Sadly true.)

Oh Otis Spunkmeyer, with your dubious name. I once lived in an apartment complex where the managers sometimes stood outside near the exit and handed out muffins and juice on Fridays. And once I took the Otis Spunkmeyer muffin with me to work and when I went to open it, I saw that it was moldy INSIDE THE WRAPPER! I don't know how that was possible, or how the management didn't notice because the whole top was glaringly moldy, but it permanently put me off packaged muffins. And that's a good thing.
If your fruit goes bad before you can eat it all, here's a crazy idea--buy smaller quantities of fruit!

fascinating article--thanks.
problem is, even whole food is becoming rapidly corrupted, thanks to the good folks at companies like conagra and monsanto. the following is a link to a documentary about monsanto that recently aired on french television.
watch it--aside from scaring the hell outta you, it'll remind you of how smugly ill-informed we americans are about stuff like this, and why american mega-business has such a bad name in so many parts of the world.
