AMERICAN IDOL
So let's talk about Idol.
Here are the contestans, should you need a reference.
1) David Archuleta...well, everyone gets a free pass. Poor kid.
2) Okay, I understand David Cook can sing. I gave him the close-your-eyes-and-is-s/he-still-good? test last night, and sure enough, he was. And honestly, his was the song I sang in the shower this morning, with that lion's roar-sounding voice that he's got. But I can't handle watching that big greasy doughy mess bop around the stage, so smug. He looks like every person from Kansas City, and the Midwest in general, that I have ever disliked. They're all the same. And they look like David Cook. Perhaps I'm just biased. I'll move on.
3) Jason Castro needs to do SOMETHING ELSE besides get really baked before the show.
4) Brooke White? Simon was right: the ability to just sit down, sing a song as it's written and not do any stupid jazzed-up improvisations, yet make it interesting, is no small feat. She won't win, but still she's fantastic. And the other song I was singing today was her rendition of "You're So Vain." LOVES.
5) Could someone please tell me why Amanda Overmeyer is on my television?

Dan...I actually didn't see AI last night, and I'm not terribly familiar with their names yet.
A friend sent my a link to the AOL where are they now slide show which led me to your blog. I intend to keep reading it. I really enjoyed your time on RW. I thought it was really cool that you were true to yourself regardless of what anyone said. I'm sure you've received similiar messages over the years, but I had to come and tell you how I felt. I can't even watch RW anymore - everyone's just drunk ALL THE TIME.
Peace bro.

I loooooved Carly last night. She was fantastic. My favorite performance of the night. I agree, Jason is good, but needs to do something new. David Archuletta is a cutie pie, so I'll give him a pass this week. TOTALLY agree with David Cook. His voice was good, but I feel like he has that emo do to cover up a not-hot balding do. I dunno - he needs a makeover, to say the least. Kristy, the country girl, sucked. I hadn't heard her sing yet and I'm glad I didn't waste my time before. I agree with Simon that I could barely understand anything Amanda said when she sang. I wonder if her throat hurts when she sings like that. Sure, there isn't a current singer like her...but Janis did it and I think we should leave it with Janis. I enjoyed Brooke White and Michael Johns. The rest (Chikezie, David Hernandez/stripper boy, Ramile & Syesha), I didn't see.

I agree with Dan's comment about David Cook looking like every guy from the Midwest that I ever hated. It blocks my capacity to cheer him on.
David Archuleta remains my favorite, but Jason Castro is proving to be ever so adorable. I don't worry that David is being raised in a Mormon home; when he comes out of the closet he will leave that behind. And I don't worry that Jason attends THE most right-wing university on earth, because if he has dreds, he is clearly trying to tell those Aggies that he ain't sharing their hate vibe. (I went there one year so I know it well. There are nice folks there, but it is insanely conservative.)
Amanda Overmeyer makes me stare like I am witnessing a horrible accident. That hair... holy crap! Just awful.

Oh yeah - David Hernandez is HOT! He has a good voice, but tries to show off with it WAY too much, ruining every song in the process, kind of like Whitney Houston. If he'd just sing the song, he'd be one hot hunky singer.

Someone needs to tell Amanda Overmeyer to get a new stylist. Between the reminiscent-of-Beetlejuice striped pants and the Skunk hairstyle it's just a nasty mess.

David Cook totally has CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) hair and he's from Blue Springs, so the local KC channel is shoving him down my throat. HE MUST BE STOPPED!!!

I am from the KC area and you are right David Cook yikes, I agree on Brooke White however, love her, but I would like to take Carly Smithson for the win Dan. Also for the life of me I cannot tell you why Amanda Overmeyer is on our televisions, I think she got Idol and Rock of Love confused she's still just trying to play it off.

As always I agree with everything you say.

Amanda Overmeyer is on your television because she is the Rock n Roll DJ Tanner.

Whenever Amanda Overmeyer is on telly, Janis Joplin is in Heaven thinking "God, don't let her say that I inspired THAT mess!"

Amanda Overmeyer represents a unique genre in the American Idol Season. As AI tries to catch a wider basin of viewers each year, Overmyer simply represent the rock and extreme versions of the viewers.

Amanda is Rotten. She kinda scares me too.

Ok-I'm biased. Amanda is from my hometown. Trust me nothing ever happens here. There's nothing even "cute" about the town. It's not precious at all. Give us at least something to be excited about. Personally, I know she's got the Janis vibe but I think she could pull off a little Grace Slick too although not from the "we built this city" era. It's just nice to see someone who not only rocks but lives that rock life and seperates herself from that whole "pop" world. To me Daughtry sounds like Creed and where is Creed now? Everyone sounds like someone before them...there's nothing out there that is original. Why do you think we are filled with remakes of old movies and tv shows as movies? We've officially run out of ideas.
