It's not that Dumbledore didn't want Harry to have the wand--he knew if he got into it with Voldemort about it, Harry might lose the fight and that would screw everything up. Let Voldermort have it! Harry has to get rid of the Horcruxes before anything else can happen anyway, there's no point in fighting it out at this point.

Ah, but you weren't THAT far off... he let Voldemort THINK he had it.
You didn't open comments about Gryffindor's sword. Remember that the sword was probably the one relic of the founders that he DIDN'T have access to - most of the time Dumbledore had it, and as Dumbledore said in Chamber of Secrets "Only a true Gryffindor could have pulled that[the sword] out of the hat..."
That was why it was so significant that it appeared for Neville - he was the only other person who knew that the snake had to be killed, because Harry told him to pass that message on to Hermione and Ron, and he really was a TRUE Gryffindor. (Plus, ironic that the other boy who might have been part of the prophecy played a part in the destruction of Voldemort.)
