I think that's where I'm going to go.
I know basically nothing about it.
But I can get a flight with my miles.
Suggestions?

Do you like the dutch?
My family's been going to Aruba -- another dutch island and their neighbor -- for years and the dive shop I work with is going to Curacao over Thanksgiving. (I was supposed to go on the trip but I had to bail because of the cash.)
Should be an awesome trip. Great people. Very friendly. No crime. Very dry. Not tropical with rain and stuff.

My friends just got back from there last week. They had a great time at an all-inclusive resort. They said that a lot of the coast is pretty rocky and it was extremely windy, but they had a blast.

I've got to say I'm a bit nervous of you going to a place like C alone - as far as I know, it is not a super gay island, and unless you go with someone most places are boring if you don't make friends. I travel alone a lot - I just love it - but the more successful trips - like Barcelona this summer, Rio last winter - were made extra special because of the friends I made there. Puerto Rico, though it is a bit run-down, does have some fun bars and fun people. Research the gay scene in Curacao before just landing up there - nothing worse than sitting alone by a pool or on the beach and feeling like a sore thumb, and being looked at suspiciously by the straight folk.

Absolutely beautiful. Great people & wonderful for snorkeling. Quiet and peaceful. Not a hopping spot by any means but just the right thing if you're looking to relax.

I've been, we rented a villa there over the holiday season 2004. The beaches aren't great, it's definitely more of a dive spot, but the old town is cool. Just a warning - the stores close a lot for weird reasons to make sure you're stocked-up on anything you need, like booze.

I saw some porn that was shot there which was pretty hot. But that's about all that I have to contribute.

Dan, it's in the Carribean! They hate fags! The music industry had to stop all of these island Bob Marley wannabees (think Shabba Ranks and Beenie Man)from writing gay bashing lyrics. Before you get your head bashed in, rethink those plane tickets.

Funny - I missed the "where do I go?" entry and thought, what does he want to know about liquor other than it's blue and YUMMIEEE!!
Have fun!

oh, and Tater has no opinion on Curacao other than his niece had a wedding there and he was not willing to shell out the bucks to go to it...
Personally Tater hates to travel, Mrs Tater is just waiting for him to die so she can go somewhere out of the continental US...

Hey newsflash folks: They hate gays everywhere.
In recent months there have been gay-motivated hate crimes in:
New York (twice)
San Diego
Los Angeles
Iowa
Elmira, New York
Malden, Massachusetts
Dallas, Texas
Wauwatosa, Wisconsin
oh, and the floor of the US House of Representatives.
And that's with a 2 minute search...
Parts of the Caribbean may not be the most gay friendly, and the attack this summer in St. Maarten (the Dutch side of the island, even though the attackers came from the French side), is devastating. Reality is that there is scary shit going on everywhere. Last night, 10 people (now maybe 12) were shot enjoying Halloween festivities in the Castro district of San Francisco.
Curacao is a dutch island. The laws most often fall in line with Holland and the government in Amsterdam supercedes the island government. Much of the permissive, welcoming Dutch attitude can be found across Dutch islands. Maybe its because the Catholic Church and other religious extremist haven't made much in roads here, but I think I'd say that Dan would be as safe there as he would be in South Beach. And the majority of the Caribbean islanders do want us to come, spend our gay money and enjoy their beautiful islands.

Dan, if you go I will pray for you. I think that gay web site was just propaganda to increase gay tourism. Bring some mace and a knife. Blessed be!
